8.2 Why iBlog?

 <  Day Day Up  >

Yes, there are other blogging tools available, but they often require more set up and work to get them going. With iBlog, all you need to do is download the software, register it (if you want to continue posting a blog to your .Mac HomePage for more than 15 days), and install iBlog in your Applications folder. The registration fee for iBlog is $19.95, and is payable via PayPal.

A trial version of iBlog can also be downloaded from your iDisk, located in /Software/Members Only/iBlog .

iBlog is also one of the few all-in-one blogging tools. iBlog offers both an authoring and publishing environment, which enables you to write the content for your blog and post it up to your .Mac HomePage.

For .Mac Members who want to have a blog but don't want to deal with the hassles of running your own web server, iBlog is the perfect answer. While it might not have all the bells and whistles as the other blogging tools, you'll find that iBlog serves its purpose and is well worth the shareware fee to keep it going.

The only downside to using iBlog is that you have to be using your Mac (or another Mac with iBlog installed) to connect to your iDisk to post your blog entries. This is unlike other blogging tools, such as Movable Type (http://www.movabletype.org), which lets you blog from pretty much anywhere .

For a complete overview of blogging software options, see Scott Hacker's article, Put Weblogs to Work , in Macworld magazine's July 2003 issue.
