Java > Core SWING advanced programming > Preface > Who This Book Is For
This book is intended for software developers who already have a good working knowledge of Swing, GUI programming techniques, and the Java programming language and want to extend their knowledge of Swing to build better applications. This is not an introductory text on any of these three topics, although you will find that there is some basic refresher material at the start of some of the chapters, in particular those that cover the text components. You do not, however, need to be an authority on Swing to make use of this book. Almost all of the existing Swing books should give you the basic knowledge you'll need to read this one. Not surprisingly, I would recommend Core Java Foundation Classes as a suitable place to start with Swing if you are looking for a beginner's text, although Core Java 2 Volumes 1 and 2 (Prentice Hall) also contain enough material to be used as a starting point.
