Burn Your Project to a DVD

When you're satisfied with your menus and you've added all the movies, slideshows, and DVD-ROM content, it's time to render, encode, and multiplex all those files into the official DVD format and burn them onto a DVD. Happily, all of those complex operations happen with a click of the "Burn" button.

Multiplexing, also known as "muxing," refers to the process of assembling DVD assets into an official format that DVD players can use.

1.

Preparation: Make sure your Energy Saver preferences are NOT set to make the Mac go to sleep.

Make sure your hard disk has as least twice as much free space available as the project takes up. Check the "DVD Capacity" meter (see the following page) to check the size of the project.

Turn on motion: Click the "Motion" button.

2.

Place a blank DVD-R disc in your SuperDrive (or use other compatible media; see page 184).

3.

Click the "Burn" button to open the aperture and show the Burn icon.

4.

Click once again on the "Burn" icon, which is now pulsating. iDVD starts rendering, encoding, multiplexing, and burning all the files and menus that are part of the DVD project.
