The Safari Interface

The Safari browser interface is elegantly designed to provide maximum functionality and minimum visual distraction. The example below shows the main elements that make up the Safari interface.

Customize Safari's Address Bar

From the View menu you can choose which icons and text fields to show in Safari's Address Bar (toolbar). This menu also lets you choose to hide or show the Address Bar, the Bookmarks Bar, and the Status Bar.

1.

From the View menu choose "Customize Address Bar…" (shown on the right).

2.

A sheet drops down from the browser title bar that contains the various buttons and fields that are available. Drag any item you want to the Address Bar. Continue to press while you drag the button to the desired position in the Address Barother buttons move out of the way when the drag gets close to them, making room for the new item. If you made changes and want to return the Address Bar to its original state, drag the default set as a unit to the Address Bar.

3.

Click the "Done" button.

4.

To remove an item from the Address Bar, Command-drag it to the Desktop.

Some sites are so beautiful (such as this astrophotography site) that you just don't want to see extra clutter like the Bookmarks Bar. A quick Command Shift B gets rid of it. If you're making a presentation that involves showing a web page, you might even want to hide the Address Bar and the Status Bar.
