Things go wrong. Sometimes, administrators' mistakes cause problems, a failed network connection prevents resource access, or a stray neutrino corrupts a data point in the database file. In any case, things need to be fixed to restore the normal productive activity of Active Directory.

The Help and Support Center system of Windows 2003 includes an Active Directory troubleshooter in the form of several problem-based scenarios with detailed causes and solutions. We've found this information to be immensely helpful in nearly every Active Directory- related problem we've encountered . To access the Active Directory troubleshooting information, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Start Help and Support.

The Windows 2003 Help and Support Center window appears.

  2. Click the Active Directory option in the list on the left, click the Troubleshooting subtopic, and then click Troubleshooting Active Directory.

In the right pane, you are presented with a list of possible Active Directory problems.

  3. In the right pane, click the topic that most closely resembles your current situation.

The list expands, displaying detailed causes and solutions. You'll probably find that your system is restored quickly with a simple fix.
