If you aren't satisfied with how your photos look when they come out of your inkjet printer, never feariPhoto isn't done closing the loop of digital photography yet. Apple has partnered with the Kodak Print Service, an online photo printing company, to take orders from iPhoto users and print their photosexactly as they have digitally cropped, enhanced, and retouched themand send them back in the mail. With today's fast shipping, you can have physical photographs on genuine photo paper in your hands in nearly as little time as it takes the drug store to process and return your film photos to you.

91. Order Photo Prints Online

When you've finished retouching your photos and are ready to print them, use the Order Prints button at the bottom of the iPhoto window. After you sign in using an Apple ID (which you can obtain for free), you can specify exactly what kind of photo prints you want and how many of each. When you place your order, the high-resolution photos are processed by iPhoto and uploaded to the Kodak Print Service, where they are transferred to photographic paper and mailed back to you using the shipping service you specify. The end result is just like using filmexcept that you never have to leave your house!

1.
Select Photos to Order as Prints

Select a photo album or a group of photos in the Photo Library . If you don't select any photos, all the photos in the current view are included in the order form.

2.
Click Order Prints Button

Click the Order Prints button at the bottom of the iPhoto window. This brings up the Order Prints form, in which you specify how many of each photo you want printed, and at what sizes.

NOTE

You must be connected to the Internet before you can order photo prints. Also, the Kodak Print Service (and iPhoto's online ordering capability) is available only in the United States and Canada.

3.
Sign In with Your Apple ID

To use Apple's online ordering system with iPhoto, you must have an Apple ID with 1-Click ordering turned on.

Click Set Up Account . In the Set Up Account dialog box that opens, enter your Apple ID and password and click Sign In . If you don't have an Apple ID, click Create Account to sign up for one.

TIP

If you have a .Mac account, you can use your @mac.com email address as your Apple ID. You might, however, have to fill in your shipping and billing information as prompted by iPhoto.

A three-step process begins if you haven't provided Apple with the necessary shipping and billing information. Fill out the forms as requested . In the first screen, answer the security question associated with your Apple ID or .Mac account. On the second screen, enter your credit card billing information, and in the third, enter your shipping information.

You can define multiple shipping addresses, which can be useful if you want to ship photos to a friend or family member, or if you want to specify whether photos should be sent to you at work or at home. Select Add New Address from the Address drop-down list to define additional addresses.

After completing the three-step process, you are signed up and able to order photos online with a single click of the Buy Now button.

4.
Select Quantities and Sizes of Prints

Scroll through the pricing options for each of the photos in your order selection. Each photo is available in any of six sizes, ranging from wallet-sized up through poster- sized . Enter the quantities of each size of each photo you want to order; with each number you enter, the Order Total price is dynamically updated.

NOTE

If any of your selected photos are too small to print at a certain size or larger, a yellow triangular "warning" sign displays on the photo thumbnail. This means that the Kodak Print Service can't guarantee that the photo will look good at these large sizes. Most modern cameras have sufficient resolution that their photos can be printed on very large paper without becoming unacceptably blocky. However, low image resolution can become a concern if you're working with older photos from early, low-resolution digital cameras, or if you've cropped a small portion from a full-resolution picture.

The most commonly ordered photo print size is 4x6 inches. You can use the Quick Order button to request copies of all your photos at that size; simply click the Up arrow at the top of the Order Prints dialog box once to request one copy of each photo at 4x6 inches. Click the Up button again for each additional copy you want. Click the Down arrow to reduce the number of copies ordered.

Select a shipping destination and a shipping method from the menus at the left. If you select Express shipping, the Order Total is increased by several dollars.

5.
Place Your Order

When you're satisfied with your order, click Buy Now ; the order is placed, your photos are uploaded to the Kodak Print Service (this might take several minutes, depending on the speed of your connection), and your credit card is charged. You will receive your photos in a few days, depending on the shipping method you selected.
