Troubleshooting Lab

 < Day Day Up >

In this lab, you will troubleshoot a problem related to connecting a new computer to a wireless network. Read the following scenario and then answer the question that follows. The question is intended to reinforce key information presented in this chapter. If you are unable to answer the question, review the lessons and try the question again. You can find answer to the question in the 'Questions and Answers' section at the end of this chapter.

Scenario

You are a systems administrator responsible for managing your organization's wireless network. Currently, you use four WAPs to provide wireless connectivity across your company's entire facility. You have two IAS servers acting as RADIUS servers, as shown in Figure 10.13. You manage your own PKI, and you issued the certificates for your two IAS servers. All connections use WEP encryption and PEAP authentication using domain user names and passwords. You manage the client configurations by specifying policy settings in the Default Domain GPO.

An employee calls you because he is having a problem connecting to the wireless network with a new laptop computer running Windows XP that he brought from home. Though this computer is not a member of the domain, the employee copied the wireless network settings from a computer with a working wireless network connection. You double-check the configuration settings, and they seem to be correct.

Question

  1. Which of the following is the likely cause of the problem?

    1. The mobile computer is not a member of the domain.

    2. The wireless network configuration was not applied by a GPO.

    3. The laptop computer does not support WPA.

    4. SSID broadcasts are disabled.

    5. The laptop computer does not trust your root CA.

    6. MAC address filtering is enabled and does not have the laptop computer's MAC address listed.
