This chapter deals with issues surrounding SNMP management and securing access to Juniper Networks routers using JUNOS. It describes SNMP within the context of how it operates within JUNOS. SNMP is the most commonly used protocol and methodology for performing router management. This chapter will provide an overview of the protocol itself and how the data is stored and retrieved from a Juniper Networks router. The important aspects of how Juniper Networks has implemented SNMP will also be discussed ”this is important because there are some unique points to be aware of. Accounting on a Juniper Networks router is an essential part of making a network profitable. Thus, this chapter will look at some of the most common accounting and billing implementations and provide real configurations for reference. Security in this chapter is defined as techniques and methods to secure your network through the use of firewall filters. In JUNOS, the use of firewall filters allows the creation of packet filters and the logging of events to help secure the network from hackers and control access. The chapter ends with a variety of different security configuration examples. The case study looks at the many possible ways to implement a secure network while protecting against denial of service (DoS) attacks and other harmful activities prevalent on the Internet these days. |
