13.9 Configuring BGP MPLS VPNs

When configuring Layer 3 VPNs in a JUNOS environment, it is necessary to enable a signaling protocol and activate MPLS on all routers involved in constructing the VPN. A special configuration is required on all of the PE routers to include the configuration of the VPN functionality, in addition to a signaling protocol and MPLS. The following sections describe the required steps for configuring VPNs in a JUNOS environment. Each step is explained and discussed with reference to several different VPN configuration examples. Each example will include a network diagram with the corresponding configurations, as well as some useful show commands that detail the configuration and operation of the VPN implementation and protocol behavior. It is important to understand that the VPN functionality being implemented relies upon an MPLS-enabled network and that a full mesh of LSPs must exist between the PE routers in order for the VPNs to function properly. To implement BGP/MPLS VPNs on Juniper Networks routers, it is necessary to configure a signaling protocol on the PE routers. Either the RSVP or LDP as signaling options are available.
