Chapter 12. Administration

In the previous chapters, we examined the COM+ programming model and learned how to create COM+ applications that can avail various services provided by COM+. We also observed that the configured settings on a component are stored in the COM+ catalog. On several occasions, we used the Component Services snap-in tool to specify these settings.

To help you install and configure components programmatically, COM+ provides a set of automation objects that expose all of the functionality of the Component Services snap-in. Using these automation objects, you can develop, for example, batch mode installation programs or scripts to perform routine administrative tasks.

In this chapter, we will examine the administration object model of COM+ and see how we can automate some routine tasks.
