Security Redirection

With security in the forefront of most network administrators' minds, anything that can facilitate or assist in providing security becomes an attractive proposition. By making use of the powerful redirection features, packets can be scanned for malicious virus strings or certain inappropriate content, matched against a set of rules and redirected to a logging server or to a server that displays a warning. This form of security can be used to detect anything from known virus strings to a telnet session on TCP port 23. How and what is done when the match is made, is up to the network administrator. The most common use of this type of redirection is for virus protection. Due to its popularity, some content switch manufacturers have designed specific rules that allow for a TCP RST to be sent to the offending user .
