Chapter 15: Remembering Your Visitors


Overview

It's always nice to be remembered, whether you're at work, at a social gathering, or somewhere else. It also nice to be remembered when you visit a website as well. Seeing something as simple as "Good to see you again, John" upon your return is a nice touch. In this chapter, we'll give our website something akin to a memory. Not only will it remember who you are, it will know when you're visiting again after a time away. Finally, it will track the band members that are online and display them to the fans.

In creating this functionality, we'll cover the following:

  • Using cookies to remember a user

  • Using application state to track online band members and display their status to fans
