Chapter 17 -- Securing Good Database Performance and Scalability

[Previous] [Next]

Chapter 17

This chapter mainly targets Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 users, but much of its content is useful even for users of earlier versions of SQL Server, Sybase, Oracle, and other database management systems (DBMSs). The examples in this chapter are strictly SQL Server 7.0, and the purpose of this chapter is very clear: to improve the performance of SQL Server 7.0 and to help you maximize the advantage you take of some specific SQL Server 7.0 features. If you're a user of Oracle or Informix, chances are that some of the structures we suggest in this chapter won't help you. But we hope they'll make you take a closer look at similar features present in your DBMS to see how you can get the most out of them.
