This appendix does not focus too heavily on CiscoWorks VPN/Security Management Solution (VMS) 2.3 as a product other than how it relates to the CSA MC. VMS is the management server framework that the CSA MC plugs in to. VMS provides access control via management user rights and centralized management capabilities to many Cisco security products, such as the Intrusion Detection System (IDS) sensors, CSA agents, and PIX Firewalls. It also has a central logging component known as the Security Monitor for correlating disparate security events within the enterprise. For CSA MC, the required VMS 2.3 component needed is the CiscoWorks Common Services. You can access the various components of VMS by directing your Java-enabled web browser to http://vmsservername:1741 for the login screen. (You will automatically be redirected to use SSL and port 1742.) Figure A-1 shows the CiscoWorks server login screen. After logging in to the server, you can access the various drawers on the left navigation pane to monitor or configure various tasks, such as the login method and user rights. Figure A-1. CiscoWorks Server Login ScreenThe drawer that includes the CSA MC component is the VPN/Security Management Solution drawer. Choosing this opens up the VMS component. From here, you can view the installed MCs or select administration tasks. (See Figure A-2.) Figure A-2. VMS Drawer and Available MCsNext, open the appropriate MC, in this case CSA MC (Security Agents V4.5). Choosing this MC opens the application in another web browser window, as shown in Figure A-3. When in the CSA MC, you can begin your configuration tasks as explained throughout this book. Figure A-3. CSA MC V4.5VMS 2.3 Hardware and Software RequirementsAs with any software application, you must be certain that you have a stable, precertified hardware and software platform upon which to install. Table A-1 provides the specifications for both the required operating system and hardware platform.
NOTE MSDE will scale to approximately 500 agents because of the 2-GB database limit, whereas MS SQL loaded on the same server will support up to 10,000 agents. Using an off-box SQL deployment in a multiserver installation of the CSA MC architecture can scale the system to 100,000 agents in version 4.5. |
