Your movie begins with the right preparation. Preparation includes both technical and creative aspects of your shoot:
A camera, a tripod, and a power supply are all you really need. But a few other itemsespecially extra batteries and a quick charger or car chargercan come in very handy. If you're going to be traveling in your own car, a car charger for your camcorder is a good investment. If you're staying in hotel rooms, quick battery chargers are also very nice to have. You may have to charge your batteries daily, so get in the habit of plugging in your charger as soon as you get to your overnight lodgings. If you are traveling with kids and want to splurge, bring along a few extra disposable camcorders and teach them how to shoot sparingly, to make their 20-minute video supply last. Tip Are you going on a wild ride? Are you going to have an immersive experience? Let's say you're going on an amusement park ride or taking a rafting trip. You can strap on a disposable or sport camcorder and give your audience a front-row seat for the action. See Chapter 7, "Project 3: Making Sporting Event Movies" for more details.
