To start Calculator, open the Start menu and choose Programs, Accessories, Calculator. Calculator has two operating modes. You can use it as a standard arithmetic calculator with memory buttons, in which case it looks like this:
Or you can use it as a scientific calculator, in which case it looks like this:
To switch from one mode to the other, open the View menu and choose Standard or Scientific.
Calculator clears the display when you switch from one mode to the other, but it retains any value in its memory register.
In both standard and scientific modes, Calculator can operate precisely on numbers with up to 32 digits. With less accuracy, it can handle much larger (and smaller) numbers, which Calculator displays using scientific notation. (Scientific notation expresses numbers as the product of a number times a power of 10, with the letter e separating the two numbers. For example, 3.32e6 is scientific notation for 3,320,000—or 3.32 times 106.)
