A Tablet PC can use any software that’s Windows XP compatible. But the Tablet PC’s success will ultimately depend on the software programs people write that truly take advantage of ink and speech technology.
These are early days for Tablet PC, so a critical mass of applications isn’t yet around. But enough applications are available that you can begin to take advantage of your Tablet PC’s features today and explore the potential of ink computing.
This chapter looks at a sampling of interesting programs available today. Some products are free; others will cost you some cash.
Remember Several of these products, though available, were still in beta testing at the time of this writing. I provide Web site addresses so that you can find the latest version available.
Many of the companies writing Tablet PC programs today offer a free, downloadable version that may be limited in some way — for example, a program may only be good for 30 days or have limited feature sets — so you can try them out before you buy.
