3.6 Upgrading from Visual Basic 6 to Visual Basic.NET

Due to the significant changes Microsoft put in place with VB.NET, existing VB applications need to be upgraded to work in the new environment. Microsoft has created an upgrade tool that uses wizards to take an application through the upgrade process. The original VB project remains unaltered, and a new version is created that has areas upgraded where appropriate. (See Figure 3.5)

As you would expect, it is not possible to guarantee that 100 percent of an application will be upgraded by running a simple wizard tool, and any areas that need attention are highlighted in the new application; they then need to be edited or changed by hand. A rather neat task list is automatically created so that you can see the scope of the work that needs to be completed (see Figure 3.6).
