Chapter 8, "Motion in One Dimension"

Displacement with Constant Velocity

displacement = velocity * time ( D = v * t )

for any constant velocity v .

Displacement Between Frames

new_position = old_position + velocity * time

where time is one frame (usually graphics/ap01inl10.gif of a second).

Average Velocity

graphics/ap01equ31.gif

for any displacement D x and time interval t .

Acceleration

graphics/ap01equ32.gif

Equation 1

v f = v i + at

Equation 2

graphics/ap01equ33.gif

for constant acceleration only.

Equation 3

D x = ½( v i + v f ) t

Equation 4

D x = v i t + ½ at 2
