Summary


SharePoint 2003 provides a rich set of features for document collaboration. Shared libraries for documents, forms, and pictures can be used for storing published versions of documents. A backward-compatible document library exists to provide the features of SharePoint 2001 document libraries such as approval routing. All SharePoint 2003 document libraries include features such as check-out/check-in and versioning to assist in maintaining the integrity of documents. The approval process helps control the quality of documents in the library.

This chapter covered the basics of a document library, including the process of creating a new document from within a document library, as well as uploading single documents and multiple documents, creating a new folder, and filtering content. The different actions that can be performed on a document were outlined, and some of these will be covered further in future lessons.

This chapter also covered the basic features of the picture library, including the steps required to create a picture library. The process of uploading multiple image files was covered because it is different from uploading multiple files to a document library. The Edit Picture, Download and Send To tools were also covered. The different views available in the picture library were covered briefly, along with the slide show feature.
