Logging in to the Coldfusion Administrator

I l @ ve RuBoard

Now that ColdFusion Server is installed, you need to learn how to log in to the ColdFusion Administrator so that you can configure it as you move along in the lessons.

The ColdFusion Administrator provides the tools for controlling your ColdFusion server. Using the Administrator, you can set up and maintain your data sources, manage log files, configure the email server, and control security. In other words, the Administrator is the hub for running your ColdFusion server.

  1. Select Start > Programs > Macromedia ColdFusion Server 5 > ColdFusion Administrator.

The ColdFusion Administrator is accessed through a Web browser. The Administrator launches with the browser you have set as your default.

  2. Type in your password and click the Password button.

When you enter the correct password, the ColdFusion Server administration window opens. You will learn to work with the Administrator later; we will be using it throughout this book.

    NOTE

You must have cookies turned on to use the administrator. By default, cookies are turned on; if you have not specifically turned them off, you're all set. However, if you have them turned off you will need to bring them back. In Explorer, go to Explorer Tools > Internet Options. Select the Security tab, and click the Custom Level button. Scroll down to Cookies and click the Enable radio button. In Netscape Navigator, choose Edit > Preferences, select the Advanced category on the left, and click the desired radio button in the Cookie section.

  3. When you are done looking at the Administrator window, close it.

For now, all you need to do is learn to log in.
