Lab Exercises

Required equipment : working system, and one or more of the following: digital camera with patch cable or camera dock; PDA with patch cable; IrDA adapter

Installing a Digital Camera

Objective : Transfer photos from a digital camera to your PC.

  1. Take pictures with a digital camera.

  2. Connect the digital camera via a patch cable or camera dock.

  3. Transfer photos using the digital camera/dock's own software.

  4. Transfer photos with the Scanner and Camera Wizard (if you use Windows Me or XP).

Does the digital camera appear as a drive letter in Windows Explorer/My Computer? Which transfer method provides you with more options?

Installing a PDA

Objective : Transfer documents from your PC to your PDA.

  1. Connect the PDA to your PC.

  2. Transfer selected documents.

Can you read the documents on your PDA with the included software? What software do you need to read the documents you want to carry with you?

Installing an IrDA Adapter

Objective : Print or perform file transfers via IrDA (infrared).

  1. Install the IrDA adapter in a PC or printer (depending upon the adapter).

  2. Use another IrDA-compatible device (such as a notebook or PDA) for data transfer or printing.

Can you print or transfer files successfully?

Answers to Practice Test

A1:

Give yourself an A if you chose answer A (USB port).

A2:

Answers C (USB port) and D (serial port) are winners.

A3:

Answer C (infrared adapter) is the one to choose.

A4:

You can use answer B (10/100 Ethernet) to get the job done (the other possibility is USB, but it wasn't listed).

A5:

Answer D (install the software for the device) is correct. Otherwise, the computer might not know how to configure the device.
