Using IPconfig

The IPConfig command-line utility is used by Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP to display the computer's current IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway (see Figure WCR.2).

If you're having problems seeing other computers on the network or connecting to the Internet on a network that uses server-assigned IP addresses, type IPConfig /release and press Enter; then type IPConfig/renew and press Enter to obtain a new IP address from the DHCP server on your network.
