A lot of emacs documentation is available in both paper and electronic form. The GNU emacs Web page is a good place to start: www.gnu.org/software/emacs.

The comp.emacs and gnu.emacs.help newsgroups offer support for and a general discussion about emacs.

Access to emacs

The emacs editor is included with most Linux distributions. You can download and install emacs with Apt (page 850) or yum (page 848). You can download the latest version of the source code from www.gnu.org.
