Cable Connectors

The RJ-45 connector is the de facto standard for Cat5 copper wiring. However, in fibre cabling you have several options: LC, SC, and ST type connectors. SC is currently the most common because it is the standard connector type for most current Gigabit Interface Converters (GBIC) used in fibre networking and SAN applications. The LC connector is half the size of an SC connector, and it is likely, since space is always at a premium, that LC will eventually surpass SC as the most common fibre connector type. In trying to design for future requirements, you should install fiber with LC connectors in your PODs. If you need to convert from LC to SC, you can use a device called a dongle. If necessary, you can use a similar type of dongle to convert the much older ST type connector to SC or LC.
