indent

To shift a paragraph or other page contents to the right, away from the left margin.



inline image

A picture that appears within the layout of a Web page.



interactive button

A link button in a Web page that changes its appearance when a visitor points to it or passes the mouse pointer over it.



Internet

A large, loosely organized internetwork connecting universities, research institutions, governments , businesses, and other organizations so that they can exchange messages and share information.



Internet Explorer

A browser for the World Wide Web, created by Microsoft. Internet Explorer version 6 is built into Windows XP and available free for other systems.



intranet

An internal network in a company, school, or other organization that is based on Internet technologies so that using it is just like using a browser on the World Wide Web .

Java

A programming language that can be used to create applets”programs that run inside a Web browser .



JavaScript

A method for creating scripts that make some advanced Web page features work, such as forms .



JPEG

A form of image file, using the file extension .jpg (or .jpeg), commonly used for inline images , most often photos, in Web pages.

link

Short for hyperlink , an object in a Web page that takes the visitor to another page, downloads a file, or starts some other action.



link bar

A bar of links (typically buttons ), a feature of FrontPage Web sites that enables the author to edit all the link bars in a Web site by changing just one of them.



link source

The part of a link that a visitor actually sees in a Web page and clicks to activate the link. (The other part of a link is the URL .) A link source can be some text, an inline image , or a hotspot .



list box

In a dialog box or Web page form, a small box with a downward-pointing arrow at its right end. Clicking the arrow opens a list of options the user can click to select one to appear in the box.



loop

To play a sound, video, or music clip repeatedly.

mailto link

A link in a Web page that, when clicked by a visitor, opens the visitor's email program and creates a new message pre-addressed to a particular person.



marquee

A line of text that repeatedly scrolls across part of a Web page, used as an attention-getting device.



menu

A list of choices on a computer screen. A user selects one choice to perform an action with a software program.

Navigation view

A version of the FrontPage 2003 window displayed when the user clicks the Navigation button in the Views bar . Used for managing a FrontPage Web site .



Navigator

Sometimes called Netscape , a popular browser.



nested list

A multilevel bulleted list or numbered list in which some list items are indented to form sublists under the item above them, as in an outline.



Netscape

Short for Netscape Communications Corporation, a software company that developed and markets the Netscape Navigator Web browser . Some people casually refer to Navigator as "Netscape."



network

A set of computers interconnected so that they can communicate and share information. Connected networks together form an internetwork.



numbered list

A list of items in which each item is preceded by a number, and the numbers go up as the list goes down.
