Chapter 18: Configuring the Check Point Firewall

Introduction

The Nokia NSP is, above all else, a firewall platform. Nokia made the choice to bundle Check Point's FireWall-1 with its product both for its stateful and secure technology and for its ease of administration. Nokia developers have been working very closely with Check Point, and in their commitment to further this relationship Nokia platforms have some added features that enhance FireWall-1 performance and its ability to be easily maintained.

You can order a Nokia box with Check Point preinstalled or you can download the installation package from Check Point (with appropriate login ID) and install it yourself. If you need to upgrade your IPSO before installing NG, you need to obtain the IPSO image from Nokia support. It might be necessary to upgrade your boot manager prior to upgrading your IPSO image as well. Please read all release notes prior to installing new packages or images. Nokia recommends that you do not upgrade from 4.1 to NG if you have less than 128MB of memory; instead, do a fresh install.

Nokia's IPSO 3.6 supports Check Point FireWall-1 NG Feature Packs 2 and 3. This chapter shows how to enable and configure your Nokia/Check Point firewall for first-time use. Certain key differences in Nokia's branded version of FireWall-1—differences that make your life as an administrator easier—are discussed. Testing the firewall installation and upgrading the firewall version or service pack are also discussed.
