Summary

The ideas discussed in this chapter are only the tip of the iceberg. I probably could have written an entire book on creative ways to use transitions. The point is that many different options are available when it comes to adding transitions to your edited sequence. I would say the four basic principles to keep in mind when thinking about transitions are the following:

  • Do you need a transition in the first place, or does a cut work just as well?

  • Do you need a fancy transition, or does a dissolve work (one of the most commonly used transitions)?

  • Does the transition you apply fit the style and direction of your video?

  • Can you get more creative than the standard prepackaged transitions that come with Premiere (such as using your own custom transitions)?

Good luck with your finishing touches. Keep me posted on any cool transitions you develop.
