Let's face it, sometimes the standard transitions get boring, so you look for something new to use as a transition in your video project. Have you thought of using another video source as the transition? It's simple. Use the basic principles of layering video tracks with a combination of animating that clip, and you have a creative new way to transition edit points with either a still video image or a moving video clip. Here's how to set up this example:
tip Make sure that the video on Video Track 2 is centered over the edit point on Video Track 1. Otherwise, you will wind up seeing the video cut behind the moving clip, and the transition will not be effective. The object of this effect is to have the video on layer 2 be centered and full-frame, covering the cut that is taking place on the layer below. As this clip continues to move past the center point mark and off to the right, out of frame, you then view the second portion of the two clips edited together on Video Track 1. If you position the clip correctly on Video Track 2, you should not see the cut take place, and you should wind up with a nice smooth transition. (See Figure 5.22.) Figure 5.22.
