Summary

We covered quite a bit of material in this hour, starting with an examination of the HTML portion of an ASP.NET web page. Here, we saw how to add an HTML <table> and other static content through the Design view, as well as how to drag and drop Web controls onto the page. We also saw how to change the appearance of HTML content in the designer by using the options under the Format menu. In addition to using the WYSIWYG designer, Visual Web Developer also allows you to enter HTML by hand via the Source tab.

After studying the HTML portion of an ASP.NET web page, we moved on to the source code portion. Here, we went over a crash course in object-oriented and event-driven programming. We then saw how to provide code that would be executed each time an ASP.NET web page is first visited.

The examples we examined in this hour and the previous one have been pretty simple ones with limited real-world application. In Hour 4, "Designing, Creating, and Testing ASP.NET Web Pages," we'll create a more practical ASP.NET web page with more involved HTML and source code portions. First, though, we'll explore the Visual Web Developer editor in greater detail.
