Using Create-Your-Own Template Websites


We'll start our tour of third-party templates by examining some of the most popular create-your-own template websites. These sites are often referred to as code generators, since that's what they dogenerate HTML code that you then insert into your eBay item listing.

Antique Central eZ Auction Advanced Template

Antique Central's eZ Auction Advanced Template (www.antique-central.com/eztemplate.html) offers simple text-based templates, like the one in Figure 4.9. There is no provision for adding images, although you can enter your own HTML image codes into the final generated code.

Auction AD Creator

Auction AD Creator (www.auctionlotwatch.co.uk/auctionadcreator.html) offers four basic template designs, one of which is shown in Figure 4.10. Their templates use tables for a well-organized layout; you can select background and text colors, and insert a single photo.

Auction Insights Free Auction Template & Ad Creator

The Auction Insights code generator (www.auctioninsights.com/practice/auction-template.html) offers a simple single-column design, as shown in Figure 4.11, with your choice of six color schemes. You can add up to three photos, as well as a separate section for shipping terms.

Auction Riches Free Auction Ad Creator

Auction Riches (www.auctionriches.com/freead/create.pl) offers a very simple code generator. The generated template is a basic single-column design, as shown in Figure 4.12, with a single photo and your choice of border and background color.

Auction Writer

Auction Writer (www.auctionwriter.com) is one of the more full-featured free code generators. It uses a WYSIWYG approach to generate a variety of different templates, using various layouts and color schemes. Just click on the placeholder text to add your own item description and details; you can include up to three photos, as shown in Figure 4.13.

AuctionFlash Code Generators

AuctionFlash (www.auctionflash.com) offersthree different code generatorsBasic, Basic Plus, and Detailed, each more sophisticated than the last. (Figure 4.14 shows a Detailed template, with two pictures.) The page also includes code generators for special auction effects, such as thumbnail image selection, slideshows, specifications tables, and so on.

AuctionSpice

AuctionSpice (www.auctionspice.com) offers four free auction templates, all rather sophisticated in their design, as you can see in Figure 4.15. You can include up to 10 pictures in your listings, with your choice of background colors. (The site also offers a Professional membership for $4.99 per month, with access to a wider selection of template designs.)

Bay Dream Design

Bay Dream Design (www.bay-dream.com) lets you choose from nine different layouts, like the one in Figure 4.16. You can change the page background and border colors, and add up to three product photos.

BiggerBids

BiggerBids (www.biggerbids.com) lets you choose from six professional-looking templates, like the one in Figure 4.17. The first five auctions are free; after that, pricing is tiered from $5.95/month (for 50 auctions) to $44.95/month (for 2,000 auctions).

Birddogs Garage Basic Template Generators

Birddogs Garage (www.birddogsgarage.com/bdg_2/modules.php?name=Template_Generators) offers separate code generators for six different template layoutsno text, one picture, two pictures, three pictures, four pictures, and five pictures. (Figure 4.18 shows the one-picture template.) Different sections of your listing are displayed in separate text boxes, for a slightly different design.

DeadZoom Auction Template Maker

DeadZoom (www.deadzoom.com/auction-template/) lets you create fully-customizable templatesyou choose the number of pictures, background color/image, borders, fonts, and so on. You can even add tables, background music, and a USPS rate calculator. (Figure 4.19 shows a typical DeadZoom-generated auction template, complete with rate calculator.)

K&D Web Page Design Custom Ad Creator

The Custom Ad Creator offered by K&D Web Page Design (www.kdwebpagedesign.com/tutorials/tut_template.asp) creates simple single-column auction templates, with your choice of background image and text color, and up to three product photos. Figure 4.20 shows what one of these templates looks like.

ListTailor

ListTailor (www.listtailor.com) lets you choose from seven basic layouts, like the one shown in Figure 4.21. The initial templates come with placeholder text, which you can then edit; depending on the design, you can include up to two product photos. (The site is free, but a 10-cent donation per template use is encouraged.)

Nucite Auction Templates

Nucite (members.nucite.com) offers a variety of auction selling tools on its site, including both free and paid templates. The three free templates, like the one in Figure 4.22, are well-organized and let you include up to seven photos. For $4.95 per month you get access to 16 additional templates, which include cross-selling links and up to 12 product photos.

RobsHelp.com FreeForm Builder

The FreeForm Builder code generator at RobsHelp.com (www.robshelp.com) lets you create very sophisticated eBay auction listings; it is perhaps the most customizable of all these form-based listing creators. You can customize virtually every piece and part of your item listing, just by clicking on the appropriate buttons and making the necessary option choices. (Figure 4.23 shows a sample listing created with FreeForm Builder.) RobsHelp.com also offers an advanced version of FreeForm that lets you add a variety of special features to your auctions, including background music, no right-click images, and more sophisticated customization. Both the basic and advanced versions of FreeForm are free to use, although donations are encouraged.

Two Wizards Designs Free Auction Template Creator

Two Wizards Designs (www.2wiz.net/dtemplates1.shtml) offers an easy-to-use form-based template generator that produces simple yet effective table-based listings, like the one shown in Figure 4.24. You have your choice of background color or graphic, and can insert up to two product photos.

Wizard's Free Auction Template Creation Form

The Wizard's Free Auction Template Creation Form (www.ambassadorboard.net/hosting/free-form.php) is another simple-to-use form-based code generator. You can choose background and border images, and include up to three photos, as shown in Figure 4.25.
