TIP Alternatively, you can right-click a contact in your Online list and select Start a Voice Conversation. It's easy to use Windows Messenger to make a PC-to-PC Internet phone call. As far as Messenger is concerned, a phone call is just a conversation with sound. If you're already in a messaging conversation and want to add sound, click the Start Talking link in the Conversation window. To start a new conversation with sound, click the Make a Phone Call link, then select the contact you want to call. Click Computer from the pop-up menu, and you're ready to start talking. NOTE The first time you try to make a voice call, Messenger runs a wizard to test and adjust your speakers and microphone. Naturally, both you and the other user must have speakers and microphones (or headsets) to carry on a voice conversation. When you turn on Messenger's voice feature, a set of audio controls appears in the Conversation window's sidebar, as shown in Figure 10.5. You can use these controls to adjust the volume of the conversation, or to mute your microphone. To end the voice part of the conversation, click Stop Talking. Figure 10.5. Use the audio controls to adjust your system for voice conversations. |
