Chapter 20. Using Professional Auction Tools

In this chapter

  • Should you be using auction tools?

  • Evaluating third-party auction services

  • Another option: software tools

Successful eBay sellers make money by listing ”and selling ”in volume. The more items you list, the more work there is ”managing inventory, creating listings, sending post-auction emails, leaving feedback, and packing and shipping the merchandise. Anything you can do to minimize the effort involved helps to make your life easier, and your business more profitable.

The most profitable and professional eBay businesspeople know that they can't handle all this work on their own. These high-volume sellers employ a variety of third-party tools to help them automate much of the auction process. Just as traditional businesses invest in computerized inventory and point-of-sale systems, eBay businesses need to invest in similar systems that help them minimize the amount of work involved in listing and selling their merchandise.

We've discussed some of these auction tools in other parts of this book. This chapter, however, takes a look at the entire suite of services offered by the major third-party auction management sites, and helps you determine which of these sites offer the best tools for your specific needs.
