Sorting a Range of Cells


If you have a list of either text or numbers, you might want to reorder the list for a different purpose. Excel lets you sort your data by any column, in either ascending or descending order.

To sort a range of cells, follow these steps:

1.

Select all the cells you want to sort.

2.

Select Data, Sort to display the Sort dialog box, shown in Figure 14.4.

3.

Select whether your list does or doesn't have a header row.

4.

Pull down the first Sort By list, and select which column you want to sort by.

5.

Choose to sort in either Ascending or Descending order.

6.

Repeat steps 4 and 5 to sub-sort on additional columns, using the Then By lists.

7.

Click the OK button to sort the data.
