Creating a DVD Slideshow

One especially neat thing about these DVD creation programs is that almost all let you create animated slideshows of your digital photographs, which can play on most consumer DVD players. If you have a lot of photos in your collection, it's easy to burn them to DVD and then distribute the discs to your friends and family. It's a lot more convenient than passing around a photo print album!

With MyDVD, the process of creating a slideshow is almost identical to the process of creating a movie DVD. The only difference is that instead of adding a movie file to a menu, you add a slideshow. This lets you include multiple slideshows on a single disc.

To add a slideshow to a DVD project, follow these steps:

  1. From MyDVD's project window, click the Add Slideshow button; this opens the Create Slideshow window, shown in Figure 36.3.

  2. To add pictures to the slideshow, click the Get Pictures button; when the Open dialog box appears, select the picture(s) to add, and then click the Open button.

  3. The pictures you selected are now added to the slideshow filmstrip. You can rearrange the pictures by dragging any picture to a new position in the filmstrip.

  4. To change the length of time each picture appears onscreen, click the Settings button to display the Slideshow Settings dialog box; select the Basic tab, and then adjust the Duration setting as desired. Click OK when done.

  5. To add music to your slideshow, click the Settings button to display the Slideshow Settings dialog box; select the Basic tab, check the Audio Track option, and then click the Choose button to select a music file. Click OK when done.

  6. By default, MyDVD adds a cross-fade transition between each slide. To use a different type of transition, click the Settings button to display the Slideshow Settings dialog box; select the Advanced tab, and then pull down the Transitions list and choose a new transition. Click OK when done.

To have MyDVD store copies of each picture file on the DVD (so that others can download the pictures to their own PCs), open the Slideshow Settings dialog box, select the Advanced tab, and select the Archive Original Pictures on Disc option.

  7. To choose a button image for the slideshow (on the DVD menu), select a picture and click the Button Image button. This sets the selected picture as the button image.

  8. When you're done adding pictures to the slideshow, click the OK button; your slideshow is now added to the current DVD menu.

Repeat this entire process to create additional slideshows on your DVD.
