Key Points

 < Day Day Up >

  • You can customize what is shown in Outlook Today. Outlook Today can open every time you start Outlook, or you can create Outlook desktop shortcuts that open the Calendar or other components. You can add shortcuts to the Shortcuts pane, and organize those shortcuts into groups.

  • You can customize how menus show or hide rarely used items, add or remove items from toolbars and menus, and choose which toolbars to hide or display.

  • You can use desktop alerts to flag, mark as read, or delete e-mail messages as they arrive in your Inbox. You can choose where and for how long they appear, and you can turn them off entirely. You can also use Outlook to create, modify and delete Windows SharePoint Services alerts.

  • You can organize your e-mail messages and contact entries by creating personal folders, a Personal Address Book, and personal distribution lists.

  • You can digitally sign your messages so that recipients will know they haven’t been tampered with; encrypt them so that only intended recipients can read them; and set permission so that recipients can’t copy, forward, or print them. You can also block the display of external HTML content when you read messages to help keep your e-mail address off junk mail lists.
