Using Compound Documents

OLE Structured Storage

Using COM objects, data is saved in specific formats defined as OLE structured storage. This format allows data from other documents to be combined into compound documents.

The OLE storage system is similar to a file system. Object data can be accessed through a set of interfaces provided by OLE. OLE provides an implementation of this storage system that it calls compound files.
