Tools, Samples, eBooks, and More

This appendix describes the contents of the CD that accompanies the Microsoft^® SharePoint^{^™} Portal Server 2001 Resource Kit. The CD includes an electronic version of the printed book, samples for use with SharePoint Portal Server, and a number of tools and Web Parts.

Resource Kit CD Contents

You can the following files and directories on the CD:

Docs

This directory contains supplemental documentation for the resource kit. The following tools also include supplemental documentation:

Electronic Version of the Printed Book

The complete text of the original print book is contained on this CD in a fully searchable electronic version. To install the eBook, run AUTORUN.EXE on the root directory of the CD. Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or later and the proper HTML Help components are required to view the eBook. If your computer does not have Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or later installed, the setup program will offer to install Internet Explorer 5.5 for you. The setup program has been configured to install the minimum files necessary to view the eBook, and it will not change your current settings or associations.

If your computer runs on Microsoft Windows NT® 4 or Microsoft Windows® 2000, you will need administrative privileges to install the eBook.

For more information about the eBook installation, refer to the Readme.txt file on the root directory of the CD. The eBook file, SPSRK.chm, is located on the root directory of the CD, and contains information from this resource kit.

Archive Tool

The Archive Tool includes additional documentation, called SPSUTIL Documentation.htm. This document provides specific procedures for use with this tool. A copy of this document is located in the \Docs directory of the CD and in the \Tools\Archive directory of the CD.

Import/Export

The Import/Export tool includes additional documentation, called SPS XML and Import Tool.doc. This document provides information about how to customize the tool for Extensible Markup Language (XML) import formats. A copy of this document is located in the \Docs directory of the CD and in the \Tools\Archive directory of the CD. A copy of this document is located in the \Docs directory of the CD and in the \Tools\spsimex\import directory of the CD.

Samples

Code samples discussed in the book are included on this CD in the \Docs\Samples folder. To copy all the sample files to your hard disk, double-click the sample file in the \Docs\Samples folder and extract the sample according to instructions. The samples require about 350 KB of hard disk space. If you are using a computer running Windows NT or Windows 2000, you will need administrative privileges to install the sample files.

To remove the sample files, locate the files on your hard drive by using Windows Explorer. Select the files, and then press Delete on the keyboard.

Chapter 25, "Mapping Custom Properties" contains extensive code examples. You can copy and paste code examples from the text file without having to enter them from the keyboard.

This file contains code samples associated with Chapter 25. This file is located under \Docs\Samples on the resource kit CD.

C25615624Propmap.zip

This file contains code samples associated with Chapter 25. This file contains a Windows Scripting Host script file named PropMap.wsf. PropMap.wsf accepts as input an XML file that supplies server, workspace, and content source information, plus property mapping information. An example of the file format expected by this script is provided as PropMap.xml. This file is located under \Docs\Samples on the resource kit CD.

Support Symbols

The Support\Symbols directory contains the following symbols used for debugging:

Tools

The tools listed below are available on the CD to help you more effectively use, manage, and develop applications for Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001.

Tools are located on the CD in the Tools folder. A short name is provided in parentheses for each tool or sample listed below; this short name is the name of the folder on the CD that contains the item. You can find detailed information about each tool in the file Readme.txt in the \Tools\ShortName folder on the CD.

Workspace Archive Tool (archive)

The archive tool enables you to archive content from a SharePoint Portal Server workspace. By default, the archived content is stored in a file directory, and the metadata is stored in a stub XML file. This architecture is extensible and enables you to write custom code to process archived items.

Category Smart Tags Component (smart_tag)

This smart tag enables users of Microsoft Office XP to access information quickly from categories in SharePoint Portal Server workspaces while viewing and authoring documents in Office.

This tool is located under \Tools\smart_Tag on the resource kit CD. The following files are included in this directory:

Category Sort Order Tool (category_sort)

This tool sorts the values for the Categories property in a workspace into alphabetical order. The order of these values determines the order in which the category list displays when a user categorizes a document.

This tool is located under \Tools\category_sort on the resource kit CD. The following files are included in this directory:

Document Usage Tracking Tool (doc_usage)

The tool uses the information in the Internet Information Services (IIS) logs to determine the number of times documents have been accessed in the workspace. You can use the results to determine which documents in the workspace users access most frequently. The tool uses the information in the Internet Information Services (IIS) logs to determine the number of times a document has been accessed.

This tool is located under \Tools\doc_usage on the resource kit CD. The following files are included in this directory:

Edit File Tool (edit_file)

This style sheet adds an Edit action to the listing for each document in the document library of SharePoint Portal Server. If you are running Microsoft Office XP or later, you can click the Edit link to open the document in the appropriate Microsoft Office application.

This tool is located under \Tools\edit_file on the resource kit CD. The following files are included in this directory:

Extranet Configuration Tool (spsextranet)

This tool automates many of the tasks described in Chapter 12, "Deploying SharePoint Portal Server in an Extranet Environment," of the resource kit and in the white paper titled "Deploying Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001 across an Extranet." This tool configures your SharePoint Portal Server computer to work with additional host names, including fully qualified domain names. This tool is located under \Tools\ spsextranet on the resource kit CD. The following files are included in this directory:

FTP Protocol Handler (FTPph)

You can use SharePoint Portal Server to crawl File Transfer Protocol (FTP) servers by installing the FTP protocol handler and creating a content source for the FTP site. This tool is located under \Tools\FTPph on the resource kit CD. The following files are included in this directory:

Import and Export Tools (spsimex)

These tools enable you to import and export content and schema into a new or existing SharePoint Portal Server workspace from an existing workspace.

Import

The import utility enables you to import content and schema into a new or existing SharePoint Portal Server workspace. Content and schema must exist in a file system folder and an XML manifest file, respectively. To ensure that the XML manifest file and content are properly formatted, use the export utility.

Rapid Portal, a Web-Based Workspace Provisioning Tool (RapPort)

Rapid Portal (RapPort) is a self-service, template-based, automated provisioning solution for SharePoint Portal Server workspaces. RapPort enables you to easily create portals from a set of templates containing schema, content, and business applications implemented as dashboards and Web Parts.

RTF IFilter (filters\RTF)

This tool reports the time it takes to access a document stored in a SharePoint Portal Server workspace. Use this tool to determine how load is affecting performance of the server. Use this tool as a simple test to verify that the server is functioning normally. The output of the access attempt is reported to help you to diagnose any failures that occur.

XML IFilter (filters\XML)

The XML content filter enables crawling of documents that have an .xml extension so they may be accessed in search results.

This tool is located under \Tools\filters\XML on the resource kit CD. The following files are included in this directory:

Web Parts

The Web Parts listed below are available on the CD to help you more effectively use, manage, and deploy applications for Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001.

Web Parts are located on the CD in the WebParts folder. A short name is provided in parentheses for each Web Part listed below; this short name is the name of the folder on the CD that contains the item. You can find detailed information about each Web Part in the file Readme.txt in the \WebParts\ShortName folder on the CD.

Add a Link to Document Library (add_a_link)

This Web Part enables users to create Web links within the document library without the need for the client components of SharePoint Portal Server. Users may customize data on the Web link profile and publish links directly from the dashboard site.

This Web Part is located under \WebParts\add_a_link on the resource kit CD. The following files are included in this directory:

Add a News, Announcements or Quick Link to Home (add_link_to_home)

You can use this Web Part to add news, announcements, and quick links to the home page of the dashboard site for SharePoint Portal Server.

Announcements Authoring Tool (announcements)

This Web Part enables authors to create content for the Announcements Web Part without the need for Microsoft FrontPage^® or Microsoft Word. The user experience has been modeled after Microsoft SharePoint Team Services. The Announcements Web Part is designed to replace the standard Announcements Web Part that ships with SharePoint Portal Server.

Category Management (category_management)

This Web Part allows a workspace coordinator to create, edit, and delete categories from the dashboard site without using the client components of SharePoint Portal Server.

Workspace Content Source Status Reporting (cs_status)

This Web Part provides status reporting for all content sources in a workspace. It shows basic status information for each content source including the number of items indexed, the number of errors reported, and the last time the content source was updated.

This Web Part is located under \WebParts\cs_status on the resource kit CD. The following files are included in this directory:

Server Content Source Status Reporting (cs_status_server)

This Web Part provides status reporting for all content sources in all workspaces on a server. It is designed for use by administrators who have coordinator access to all workspaces on the server. It shows basic status for each content source including the number of items indexed, the number of errors reported, and the last time the content source was updated.

Centralized Workspace Coordinator Management (coordinator_management)

This Web Part provides central access to workspace management tasks. From the dashboard site, it provides links to manage categories, document profiles, content sources, portal content, and workspace settings.

Personalized Document Status Report (doc_status)

This Web Part shows each user the documents that are checked out to him, documents awaiting his approval, and documents pending the approval of others. Before use, an administrator must run a setup script on the server.

Create Documents from Office XP Templates (document_templates)

These Web Parts enable you to create documents from templates. You must have Office XP installed to use these Web Parts.

There are two different Web Parts for creating documents from templates:

New document.dwp
Create document from template.dwp

New document.dwp is designed to run from the Home page of the dashboard site. Create document from template.dwp is designed to be run from within the Document Library dashboard.

Events Authoring Tool (events)

Personal Dashboard Status Reporting (personal_dashboard_status)

This Web Part provides coordinators or administrators with a list of all personal dashboards in a workspace and the date when each dashboard was last modified. In addition, it provides links to the dashboards and their management folders. This Web Part is located under \WebParts\personal_dashboard_status on the resource kit CD. Advanced Search Property List Browser (property_browser)

This Web Part extends the Advanced search feature of Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001. The Advanced search feature enables you to search for documents based upon properties. This Web Part expands that capability by allowing you to search for documents based upon properties and by providing the values for properties of list type.

Document Library Contents Undelete Tool (undelete)

This Web Part displays a list of all the documents deleted from a particular folder. In addition to the display name of the deleted document, this Web Part contains an Undelete link. When you click this link, the document is returned to the folder from which it was deleted.
