When deploying SharePoint Portal Server in a multilingual environment, consider the following factors:
Case Sensitivity. MSSearch queries are not case-sensitive. For example, "SELECT" is identical to "Select," "select," and "sELect."
Accent Sensitivity. As a general rule, SharePoint Portal Server is not sensitive to accents. For example, a search for the term "resume" also returns documents containing "résumé." Accents are honored in languages where they are critical, such as Japanese, Chinese, Hebrew, and Farsi.
Katakana Search Terms. SharePoint Portal Server treats full-width Katakana names and half-width Katakana names as the same. Do not create a document or folder with the same full-width Katakana and half-width Katakana names in the same location. By design, SharePoint Portal Server treats the following combinations as the same name:
Windows 2000 Locale. If using a non-English locale, SharePoint Portal Server Search returns results only when the administrator is logged in. You can work around this issue by using one of two methods:
Values for HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\International\Locale | |
---|---|
Default | SharePoint Portal Server Value |
00000409 | 0000041D |
Values for HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\International\sDecimal | |
---|---|
Default | SharePoint Portal Server Value |
"." | "," |
Incorrectly editing the registry may severely damage your system. Back up the current version of the registry before making any changes. You should also back up any valued data on the computer.
