User Authorization

User Authorization

Broadly speaking, users in a Content Connector Web site are divided into guest users and privileged users. In order to see the Web site, even guest users must be given subscriber rights in Content Management Server. Guest users themselves can be divided into non-registered and registered guest users. Registered guest users are those users that have provided some registration information. This information is stored in a Commerce Server user profile. By providing this information, registered guest users can participate in the personalized content made possible with PCOs.

Privileged users can also be divided into different groups with different privileges. In the Method Systems sample site that comes with Content Connector, there are three types of privileged users: partners, content contributors, and administrators. Partners are further divided into three groups: education, OEM, and government. Partner users are subscribers with respect to Content Management Server roles, but are each allowed to see content that is specifically tailored for them.

Content contributors are privileged users that have been assigned to the Content Management Server roles of author or editor, and as such, can see the links that allow them to enter the Web site in editing mode. Administrators, as usual, are the ultimate privileged user and can see all content and work with the Web site in all modes.
