Activity 4.1: Planning Resource Groups

In this activity, you’ll plan the resource groups for a new cluster that you’ll be implementing in your network. The cluster will be used to support a file share for your network. Because the cluster is supporting a file share, you’ll have to configure it with at least one network name and IP address to allow network clients to access the services. The cluster must also identify the physical disk in the cluster storage that will be used for storage.

For each of the following steps, identify how your file server resource group will be configured:

  1. List all the server-based applications.
  2. Sort the list of applications. Determine which applications can use failover.
  3. List all other resources.
  4. List all dependencies for each resource.
  5. Make preliminary grouping decisions.
  6. Make final grouping assignments and create any necessary dependency trees.
