The three Gotta Do’s we’ve discussed in this chapter—validate expectations, optimize efforts, and develop your navigational intelligence —are vital life-balancing tools. You can tell they’re Gotta Do’s by asking yourself what happens when you don’t do them:
What happens when you don’t validate your expectations— when you operate out of paradigms that are incomplete, inaccurate or distorted?
What happens when you work hard, but what you’re doing is not aligned with valid expectations or leveraged for optimum results?
What happens when you lack navigational intelligence, when you don’t have the discernment to determine what matters most in moments of choice?
Can you see the impact on your ability to create balance and momentum in your life?
Validate.
Optimize.
Navigate.
Let’s now use these Gotta Do’s as a framework to look specifically at work, family, time, and money. The objective of these next four chapters will be to explore the ways we think about these arenas of life, to align our expectations with what is both “real” and “realistic,” and to identify high leverage optimizers that will increase effectiveness in each arena and enhance the synergy between the four.
Then, in the chapter on wisdom, we’ll look even deeper into creating synergy and positive momentum in our lives, and into increasing our navigational intelligence and making good choices every day.
