About the Authors

James McGovern is an industry thought leader and the author of best-selling books: Java Web Services Architecture, Enterprise SOA, and Agile Enterprise Architecture. He has served as technical editor for five different books on various computer topics and has 16 years of experience in information technology. He is employed as an enterprise architect for The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. He holds industry certifications from Microsoft, Cisco, and Sun and is a member of the Java Community Process, IEEE, and the Worldwide Institute of Software Architects.

Scott W. Ambler is a senior object-oriented (OO) development consultant with Ronin International, Inc. (www.ronin-intl.com) and works in software analysis and design, Agile Modeling, agile database techniques, training, mentoring, and architectural audits of mission-critical systems. He is the coauthor of the best-selling books: The Elements of UML Style, Agile Modeling, Mastering Enterprise JavaBeans 2/e, The Elements of Java Style, The Object Primer, and the forthcoming Agile Database Techniques. He has a master's degree in information science from the University of Toronto. He is a senior contributing editor with Software Development magazine, a columnist with Computing Canada, and a member of Flashline Inc.'s Software Development Productivity Council.

Michael E. Stevens is employed as a software architect for The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. He specializes in service-oriented architectures and is a coauthor of a recent book, Java Web Services Architecture. He is a columnist on various software development topics for Developer.com. He received his B.S. degree in computer science from Central Connecticut State University and is a candidate for a master's degree in computer science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He has more than 14 years of experience in information technology and founded a software company that developed solutions for the mailing industry. He is a certified Java programmer, a member of the IEEE, the IEEE Computer Society, the ACM, and the ACM SIGSOFT.

James Linn is the coauthor of a recent book, XQuery Kick Start. He has 8 years of experience in software development and has worked with Java, C++, and MFC. He has master's degrees in biochemistry and software engineering. He is a member of the consulting arm of The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc.

Vikas Sharan is Lozoic's cofounder and currently a managing partner. He has spent 10 years defining, developing, and selling software and Internet services in various technical management and entrepreneurial positions. Before starting Lozoic, Vikas was a director with a services firm in the Silicon Valley. Prior to this, he founded and set up a successful usability practice for PRT Group, a large system integrator on the East Coast with a development center in Barbados.

Sharan is currently a part of the architecture team at Baypackets, a telecom application platform engineering company. Vikas has a strong telecom, supply-chain, and financial services background, and he has worked with computer-based training systems and mobile communication products. He has a background in design and human factors. His master's degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, is in industrial design.

Elias Jo is the systems architect for New York Times Digital and is responsible for the technical direction of the company's enterprise Web site. He has a background in deploying enterprise scale Web applications and middleware products for the media and the financial services industry. Jo was previously the architect/lead developer for multimillion-dollar project deployments at Deutsche Bank, Citibank, Standard & Poors, Guardian, AMKOR, and ADP. He has been published in ColdFusion Developer's Journal and has participated as a technical editor for O'Reilly's technical publications. Jo is a graduate of Columbia University and holds a degree in industrial engineering with a minor in computer science.
