Baseline

In the Planning phase of the project, you set the Baseline for the project. In the Execution phase of the project, you measure how well the project is going against the Baseline. For some, it seems that the word "Baseline" is difficult to conceptualize. The definition of a baseline is simply "the original approved plan." That is it. Thus, when you are in the Execution phase of the project, you will be executing against the Baseline (usually these are modified by the type of plan, for instance, the Cost Baseline is the approved plan for Cost, and the Schedule Baseline is the original approved Schedule).

Q.

What are you measured against during the Execution phase of the project?

A.

Statement of Work

B.

Project Baseline

C.

Management Objectives

D.

Engineering Design

You might argue for C or D, but in the project world and as a project manager, you are going to be measured against a baseline, or B.
