Summary

Summary

Web server and database technologies are at the heart of any Web application's design. Without close attention to security, their default configurations provide attackers with innumerable avenues of attack.

Web servers such as IIS and Apache have vulnerabilities, but they typically are present in peripheral services and bundled programs that can readily be turned off. The security of default configurations in the Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle software can be tightened with little impact on overall usability.
