When you’re driving, road signs are always warning you about bad things. Slow, Detour, Stop, Dip — these are all signs that I, for one, hate to see. I mean, you never see good signs like Go Ahead and Speed, No Traffic This Way, or Free Money Ahead.
This book isn’t like that. Using friendly icons in the margins, I highlight good things and bad things, and the good things outnumber the bad. So don’t shy away from the road signs in this book — welcome them into your reading ritual with open arms. Here’s your field guide to icons:
Tip | Photoshop has very few obvious shortcuts and a ton of hidden ones. That’s where the Tip icon comes in. It says, “Hey, whoa there; here’s a juicy one!” |
Remember | This icon acts as a special reminder of things I’ve mentioned in the past, or things I want you to bear in mind for the future. |
Warning | Photoshop is a kind and gentle program. But every once in a while it pays to be careful. This icon tells you when to keep an eye out for trouble. |
Photoshop CS | This icon points out features or commands that have changed or are new in Photoshop cs. If you’re upgrading from an earlier version of Photoshop pay attention to this icon. |
Technical Stuff | I hate computer jargon just as much as the next red-blooded computer user. But sometimes, I have to use it because there’s no word for this stuff in normal, everyday, conversational English. It’s a crying shame, I know, but at least I warn you that something nerdy is coming your way with this icon. |
