How to Obtain MySQL, PHP3, and IMP
If you will be following this book exactly, you need to have Red Hat Linux version 6.1 or 6.2 installed on your computer.
If you need to install onto other platforms, or you want to use the very latest software, you can download the software from the following locations:

When you attempt to download software from an online site, you may find a newer version of the software available. In most cases, you must use the versions of software described in this book and go through the installation procedures at least once using that software. After you have a successful install, you can attempt to upgrade to the next version of software. You may find the new software breaks the installation. Experience is the best teacher!

NOTE
The Apache, freetype, and imap packages should be obtained from a Red Hat Linux CD-ROM, or downloaded from the Red Hat version 6.2 directory on ftp.freesoftware.com, or ftp.redhat.com. The versions of imap that I used came from the Red Hat 6.2 Linux installation CD-ROM.
If you need to use a Red Hat Linux CD-ROM, you can purchase one at http://www.linuxdisk.com, or pick one up from your local bookstore.
The version of Apache should be 1.3.12 or later. Versions before 1.3.12 have a small security vulnerability and should not be used for this project.
I gathered all the software packages and put them in an imp subdirectory in root's home directory. I recommend you put all your files in a directory of the same name . This will keep things organized, and will enable you to follow along with the examples in the book.
You are now ready to begin the installation of MySQL, PHP, and IMP. Have fun!
