Make sure that the appropriate microphone is selected; adjust the input level so that it registers your voice at approximately 75 percent; and see whether the input level changes when you speak into the microphone.

To adjust the volume of your speakers or headset, use your keyboard audio control, or choose System Preferences > Audio and increase the output volume.
Make sure that the output volume is not muted.

If you do not see the appropriate microphone, headset, or handset displayed, try disconnecting and reconnecting it; if that doesn't work, refer to Chapter 7 for assistance.
