Project24.Create a Contact Sheet for Your Image CD

Project 24. Create a Contact Sheet for Your Image CD

Easily create thumbnails of all your images for a contact sheet that will fit into any jewel case.

Tools: Photoshop Elements

Materials: Your photos

How often have you burned a CD of all your images but then wanted a quick way to reference them at a glance? Here's how to automatically set up a contact sheet in Photoshop Elements and send it to your printer.

Get started. Open the Organizer in Photoshop Elements and create a collection of the images you want on your contact sheet. (For more information on creating a collection, see Project 1.) Double-click your collection so that you are viewing only those images. Use the shortcut Ctrl+A to select all the images in your collection.

Alternatively, you can Shift-click the images in the Browser window to select the ones you want. This might work well if you don't have a lot of images.

Preview your images. Choose File > Print. All of your images will appear in the preview pane on the left side of the Print Selected Photos dialog box.

Set your print size. Click Page Setup and choose Printer, then Properties. Under Paper Size, choose Custom Paper and set the size to 4.75 for both Width and Height. Even if your paper is not this exact size, it's important to use these settings so that Photoshop Elements will know what margins to use for the contact sheet. When you are finished, click OK.

Select the layout. Under step 2 in the Print Selected Photos dialog box, click the Select Type of Print pop-up menu and choose Contact Sheet.

At this point you will want to set up any other options for your contact sheet, such as date, captions, and page numbers.

You're done! Click Print and you're ready to go!
