Section 18.11. Will life cycle management capabilities be available to ISVs?

18.11. Will life cycle management capabilities be available to ISVs?

As part of its efforts to drive standards for the operational layers of services, SAP intends to create standard interfaces for each service, others for a specification model, preconfigured installation interfaces, and still others built around the capabilities of SAP NetWeaver. This will guarantee that any service built on top of the platform by SAP or its customers or ISVs will contain the necessary attributes for automated ESA life cycle management.

SAP is also working with hardware partners such as Cisco Systems, Intel, EMC, Hewlett-Packard, and many others to create adaptive infrastructure components that are ESA and business process aware. Together, they will create another set of standards for embedded software that will assume operations and monitoring responsibilities. For instance, they could create a Cisco router containing a software layer that is capable of raising its own alerts when messages sent to a given service fail to be delivered or is capable of distributing the loads on a set of services not by technical criteria, but by their relative importance to the business processes they comprise. In other words, SAP and its partners are working together to create not just software, but essentially, hardware standards that for the first time will be business process aware. And these standards will be available to every ISV offering enterprise services. Finally, all services and composite applications, regardless of who built them, will enjoy the same capabilities for ESA life cycle management.
